Dave Franco and Alison Brie Star in Body-Horror Satire ‘Together’
Real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie are set to take their on-screen chemistry to a whole new level in the upcoming body-horror satire “Together.” The film, written and directed by Michael Shanks, premiered its official trailer on March 25, 2025, offering a tantalizing glimpse into the eerie world of the film.
“Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie (Franco and Brie) find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country. Abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other,” reads the official synopsis. “With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh.”
The trailer, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, showcases the film’s unique blend of horror and dark comedy. The film’s premise revolves around Tim, who becomes physically unable to be away from Millie, suggesting a literal interpretation of codependency. The eerie visuals, including close-ups of Franco and Brie’s intertwined bodies and the unsettling imagery of rotting flesh, set the tone for what promises to be a chilling and thought-provoking film.
“Together” was one of the standout films at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, premiering in the event’s Midnight section. The film’s unique premise and strong performances from Franco and Brie garnered significant attention, leading to a bidding war among distributors. Ultimately, NEON acquired the film for an impressive $17 million, making it one of the biggest deals in Sundance history.
In his review, Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman described “Together” as “a body-horror movie about a serious thing—love—that never takes itself too seriously.” This balance between horror and humor is evident in the trailer, which features moments of levity amidst the unsettling visuals. The film’s score, a haunting rendition of Lakmé’s “Flower Duet,” adds to the overall atmosphere of unease.
“Though a large degree of the fun to ‘Together’ is derived from the novelty of its stars being married in real life, Brie and Franco have worked together plenty of times before,” notes Variety. The couple’s previous collaborations include “The Little Hours,” “The Disaster Artist,” “Horse Girl,” and “The Rental.” Their most recent project was 2023’s “Somebody I Used to Know,” which they co-wrote and directed by Franco.
“Together” is produced by Mike Cowap, Andrew Mittman, Erik Feig, Julia Hammer, Tim Headington, and Max Silva, with both Brie and Franco also serving as producers. The film is set to premiere in theaters on August 1, 2025, offering audiences a chance to experience this unique blend of horror and dark comedy.
The film’s success at Sundance and its acquisition by NEON suggest that “Together” is poised to make a significant impact on the horror genre. With its intriguing premise, strong performances, and the creative vision of director Michael Shanks, “Together” promises to be a standout film in the summer of 2025.
